Alex Highet

I am a professional masseur with 16 years of experience in holistic treatments. I trained at the University of Salford in Complementary Medicine and Health Sciences (BSc.), the course combining holistic and orthodox principles, and specialised in Aromatology and Reflexology.

After leaving Manchester, I worked in Edinburgh for a few years in orthodox healthcare, providing care and support work for people with varying degrees of mental and physical health issues. I also worked and volunteered for years at a not-for-profit free-access arts and events space and was involved with grass roots community and performance groups investigating Celtic Pagan legacies.

In 2007, I founded The Massage Corner in Bristo Place, Edinburgh, then 2012 brought me to Berlin to set up my new life, work and projects here.

Over the years I have helped people attend to their physical, mental and emotional challenges from acute pain to manage chronic pain, helping people to feel more present in their body, issues around touch in general, helping people find more grounding and emotional/mental strength, relief and release.

TESTIMONIALS

What my clients
have to say

  • “… during exams I had serious problems with my back and felt that a regular massage was worth the investment, but was not happy with the one I was initially going to… I am so happy I went! I cannot stop going anymore as every time after a 30-minute massage I am so relaxed I feel like I am … Alex fragrances the massage oil depending on what you are looking for, whether you want to do some hard-core revision afterwards or just to relax after a busy day. Could not recommend it more.”
  • “I went into the Massage Corner a few months ago not really sure what to expect or if I would even like it much, but decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I did, it’s the best thing I’ve done for a very long time (years, probably). I now feel my week is incomplete if I can’t get a massage from Alex.”
  • “Alex is amazing. Very cheerful, friendly and an excellent masseuse. He also blends a unique mix of oils for your massage, which help with emotional or mental states you wish to change/enhance! After a half-hour massage from Alex I feel like I’ve taken the entire day off.”
  • “I hobbled into Alex’s corner boudouir booth kiosky thing with a maltreated back sore in two places and an achey shoulder to boot, and I came out feeling spry and limber… This place in an essential destination if you have back woes, but also entirely worth it just for the pure pleasure if you’ve not a niggle or a twinge to beef about. Amazing.”
  • “My wife and I have been to the Massage Corner a number of times and we would totally recommend it. Alex is friendly, knowledgeable and quite skilled in addressing back pain and muscle tension… We would highly recommend going.”
  • “… one of the things I miss most about Edinburgh is Alex’s skill as a masseuse. I’d highly highly recommend going for a full 45 minute session and spend the rest of the day (/week) in a dreamy crick-free wonderland.”
  • “Each time I’ve felt incredibly refreshed and energized. Alex is skilled, professional and makes you feel relaxed and taken care of. He mixed wonderful smelling oils and gave me advice on back-strengthening exercises. During the massage he found the tense knots in my back and worked thoroughly on them. It all made me very happy.”

“During the first month Alex worked on some serious issues coming from my spine, which was causing pain in my arm and let. The process has been extraordinarily positive and with really good results, since he has the time to understand your body. Alex is always friendly and respecting of your present needs, and I would gladly recommend him.”

He always performs a through consultation and makes you feel extremely comfortable. His massage was one of the best I have ever had and as a massage therapist myself I am unfortunately extremely critical! Alex is a true master of his art.”

Every single one has been a wonderful experience, and Alex takes the time to find out exactly what I want from each session… If you want a personalised massage experience, this is the place to go!”
  • “I’ve had a couple of aromatherapy massages from Alex at The Massage Corner and they were both excellent, relieving tension and helping with relaxation and sleep.”
  • “Alex’s aromatherapy massages were one of the main highlights of my time in Edinburgh. He is pleasant, knowledgeable, responsive, gives a thorough consultation before each session (even repeat visits.”
  • “I store all my stress in my shoulders. And I’m a stresshead. So I just figured that [a massage] was pointless. But I finally caved and went and it was good. … It’s more a kind of therapy than just a pure … It was one helluvan intense experience for me, as I’ve never had a proper massage. But, oh my, it felt good. …Definitely go.”

“I feel very grateful to have been able to take Alex up on his generous subscription offer. It has honestly  become a great surprise for me to discover how beneficial regular visits can be…the therapy seems to go to a deeper and more holistic level each time. Alex is not only very professional and knowledgeable, but he also has the great ability to put his clients at ease and he seems to have that special “touch.” I recommend regular sessions for anyone who is looking to pursue health benefits to their fullest.”
